Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)

Specialist SCI support delivered by workers who understand the clinical realities of spinal injury and the personal determination that defines the people living with it.

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)

Spinal cord injury requires a level of support precision that not every provider can genuinely offer. The physical requirements are specific, the health risks are real, and the need for consistency and technical competence is non-negotiable. At People’s First Choice Australia, our SCI support workers are trained specifically for this work, not just disability support generally. We know what we are doing, and our participants and families can feel the difference.

How PFCA Supports SCI Participants

  • Targeted personal care support based on injury level and individual physical requirements
  • Safe manual handling, repositioning, and mechanical or manual transfer assistance
  • Active pressure care management to protect skin integrity and prevent complications
  • Bladder and bowel support delivered with clinical accuracy and personal dignity
  • Respiratory monitoring and ventilator management for high-level cervical injuries
  • Community participation support that keeps SCI participants engaged in life beyond their home
  • Ongoing coordination with rehabilitation physicians, spinal nurses, and allied health teams

Our Approach to Supporting SCI Participants

We enter every SCI support relationship with two things in mind. First, the clinical precision required to keep a participant safe and healthy. Second, the absolute determination to help them live as fully as they choose. Those two things are not in tension. They work together. Safety creates the foundation that lets ambition grow.

Our team does not put a ceiling on what SCI participants can achieve. We have supported participants to pursue education, careers, travel, and community roles that many assumed were out of reach. We get the clinical work right so the rest of life stays wide open.
